Thank-you from the Roy Family
We would like to thank everyone for coming out today. Chris loved to play hockey and would have loved to be here.
It wasn’t easy to have Chris leave home at eighteen and move out here where we knew very few people, but you took this young man in and made him feel so welcome. Even if he wore shorts all year long and his cap on backwards.
Chris loved it here in Kinistino, whether he was at work at Farm World, or after work with his friends, fishing at the river or the lakes, quadding at the muddiest places ever, playing poker, playing hockey or just partying and having fun.
We are so glad Chris moved here, he couldn’t have come to a better place, with better people. Everyone was so good to him.
The people in this community and the people at Farm World are truly special. We do not have the words to thank you for treating Chris so well while he was here.
One year ago our life turned upside down and you have all been there for us since.
For example, on June 29th a group of Farm World friends came to see us in Saskatoon on Chris’s first birthday without him. They brought coolers of food, drinks, and even gifts. You are all amazing people and we thank you.
From an early age it was clear Chris was going to be our farmer. He was so interested in everything, and so eager to help. He was never too busy at school or later working at Farm World, to come out after a full day of work or most weekends and help where ever he was needed. He was always out there and you never had to ask him to help, he just knew. Farming just isn’t the same without him.
It was always such a thrill to see his truck coming down the road. You knew he’d have stories to tell, and he just brought that love of life with him everywhere he went. He loved life, family, friends, people, farming, sports, cooking, . . . giving you that beep of his horn.
We’d like to thank the Western Canada Montreal Canadians Fan Club rec hockey team for taking their entire day and putting on this event in Chris’s honour. You and your families are truly, truly remarkable people. This event will allow the memory of Chris to continue on through his Scholarship at Holy Cross High School as well as bring friends together to play a game that Chris loved. Also a thank you to the many people behind the scenes who organized this day, helped with the food for after, and for the many people who tried to get the Saskatchewan Roughrider game on T.V. Chris would be so proud of you all.
You have all been there for us over this past year and words cannot express our appreciation. This is truly an amazing community.
We found this verse a couple of weeks ago and would like to share it with you. It made us think of Chris, and all of you.
Thanks Chris for being our forever friend and everyone here for becoming our friends too. Enjoy the game and have fun. Thank you.
Some Friends Are Forever
Sometimes in life, you find a special friend:
someone who changes your life by being a part of it.
who makes you laugh until you can't stop;
someone who makes you believe that there really is good in the world.
Someone who convinces
you that there is an unlocked door just waiting for you to open it.
When you're down, and the world seems dark and empty,
friend lifts you up in spirit
and makes that dark and empty world suddenly seem bright and full.
Your forever friend gets you through
the hard times,
the sad times, and the confused times.
If you turn and walk away, your forever friend follows.
If you lose your way,
your forever friend guides you and cheers you on.
If you find such a friend, you feel happy and complete,
because you need not worry.
have a forever friend for life, and forever has no end.
